GETTING INVOLVED

At St. James, we have various ways that people can be involved in the life of the community. Here are some of the ways you can put your gifts to work.

  • Readers- the ministry of the lector is a vital part of our liturgy. As a reader, you help to bring the story of God and God’s people to life for our time and place.

  • Intercessors – as one who leads the prayers of the people you help us to focus on the concerns and cares of the church community as well as the wider world. As we lift up others in prayer, it heightens our awareness of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives.

  • Servers- serving at the altar of the Lord is a privilege few people get to experience. Being a server allows you to help prepare the table where we are fed with bread and wine, the body and blood of Jesus. You will be an integral part of the worship team.

  • Altar Guild – Like servers, being a part of the altar guild is a task, which requires dedication and commitment to maintaining the inside of the church, setting it up and making it presentable for our weekly worship. It too, is a servant ministry, which enhances our spiritual life.

  • Choir - if you love to sing a new song to the Lord in praise, then we would like you to join us a part of the music ministry. Music has an important place in liturgy; it touches our souls in deep ways and centers us on the divine. The choir rehearses on Sunday mornings before both the 10:00am and 11:30am services. New members welcome. Speak to Connie Scriver for more information.

  • Teachers- do you have a passion for communication and learning? If you do, then helping children and adults mature in the Christian faith through educational programmes is the place where you want to be.
